Terms, privacy & marketplace policies

How Reutilix works — and the rules that apply.

The documents on this page — including our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy — govern your use of Reutilix. Please read them carefully. They are provided for general information and do not constitute legal advice.

Last updated: July 2026

Overview

Reutilix operates an online marketplace for construction, renovation and trade materials. Any account holder may list eligible materials (“Sellers”) and any account holder may browse, buy, contact Sellers and post Material Requests (“Buyers”). Buying and selling are free. Reutilix provides the platform that connects users; transactions take place directly between Buyers and Sellers.

Unless a specific Reutilix-operated service expressly states otherwise, Reutilix does not own, take possession of, warehouse, transport, inspect, certify, appraise or guarantee any material listed on the platform, and is not the buyer, seller, escrow agent, arbitrator, shipper, contractor or professional inspector in any user-to-user transaction.

These documents are provided for general information about how Reutilix operates today. They are not legal advice and do not guarantee compliance with any particular law or regulation applicable to your business or transaction.

Terms of Use

These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Reutilix website, marketplace and related services (the “Service”). By creating an account, posting a listing or Material Request, sending a message, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility & Account Registration

Accounts are free and open to members of the public and to businesses. Any account holder may buy and any account holder may list eligible construction, renovation and trade materials. There are no listing fees, subscription fees or transaction commissions, and no payment card is required. Business verification is optional and adds a Verified Trade Business badge; it is not required to sell. Reutilix may verify, decline or revoke verification, and may suspend accounts that breach these Terms, at its discretion. You must be of the age of majority in your jurisdiction and legally able to enter into binding contracts. When registering an account, and in connection with any transaction, you agree to provide accurate, current and complete information and to keep it up to date.

2. Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify Reutilix promptly at hello@reutilix.ca if you suspect unauthorized use of your account.

3. Marketplace Role of Reutilix

Reutilix is a venue that connects users. Reutilix is not a party to transactions between users, does not review the accuracy or legality of user content in advance, and does not guarantee the identity of any user, the availability, condition, quality, quantity, measurements, authenticity, ownership, code compliance, safety, fitness for purpose, or legality of any material, or that a transaction will be completed.

4. Listings & Material Requests

Any account holder may post listings of construction, renovation or trade materials, and any account holder may post Material Requests for materials they wish to source, free of charge. Reutilix is limited to construction-related materials; general classifieds content is not permitted. You are solely responsible for the accuracy, completeness and legality of any content you post. Listings and requests must describe the material honestly, including known defects, condition, storage history, and any limitations. Spam, duplicate posts, misrepresentation, and off-topic content are not permitted.

5. Seller Responsibilities

If you list material for sale you represent that you have full legal right, title and authority to sell or transfer that material, that it is not subject to any lien or third-party claim that would prevent its transfer, and that its sale complies with applicable laws. You are responsible for accurately describing the material, honouring the terms of your listing, collecting and remitting any applicable taxes, and completing any agreed transaction in good faith.

6. Buyer Responsibilities

Buyers may be members of the public or businesses. Buyers are responsible for determining whether a material is suitable for their intended use and complies with applicable building codes, engineering requirements, manufacturer specifications, permits, laws, regulations and safety requirements. You should inspect material before purchase or use and obtain qualified professional advice where appropriate — including for structural, electrical, mechanical, fire-rated, safety-critical or otherwise regulated or specialized materials.

7. Inspection & As-Is Transactions

Materials listed on Reutilix are typically surplus, used, ex-stock, opened, stored, weather-exposed, discontinued or previously handled. Unless the seller expressly states otherwise in writing, all materials are supplied on an “as-is, where-is” basis with no warranty of any kind from Reutilix. Buyers are strongly encouraged to inspect material in person before completing a transaction.

8. Pricing, Negotiations & Payment

Prices, negotiations and payment arrangements are made directly between buyer and seller. Reutilix does not currently process, hold, escrow or guarantee payments between users and is not responsible for any payment dispute, non-payment, chargeback or fraud arising from user-to-user transactions.

9. Taxes

Users are responsible for determining, collecting, reporting and remitting any GST/HST, PST, provincial sales tax, use tax, import duty or other tax applicable to their transaction. Reutilix does not provide tax advice.

10. Pickup, Delivery, Loading & Transportation

Pickup, delivery, loading, unloading, transportation, timing, cost, required equipment, site access and related safety responsibilities are the responsibility of the buyer and seller unless the listing expressly states otherwise. Users must comply with applicable occupational health and safety, transportation, and site rules. Reutilix does not provide transportation or loading services.

11. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to: (a) violate any applicable law; (b) post false, misleading, fraudulent, infringing, defamatory, abusive or harassing content; (c) impersonate any person or business; (d) collect user information without consent or scrape the Service; (e) circumvent security, rate-limiting or access controls; (f) use the Service to distribute malware or spam; or (g) interfere with the proper operation of the Service.

12. Prohibited & Restricted Materials

See the Prohibited & Restricted Materials section below. That list is incorporated into these Terms.

13. Construction & Material Safety

See the Construction Material Safety section below. Reutilix does not certify structural capacity, engineering suitability, electrical compliance, fire ratings, manufacturer warranties, building-code compliance or fitness for any particular project.

14. Intellectual Property & Content Licence

You retain ownership of the content you own and post to the Service (listings, requests, photos, descriptions, messages). You represent that you have all necessary rights to upload and share that content. By posting content you grant Reutilix a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt, format, display and distribute the content as reasonably necessary to operate, promote and improve the Service. Reutilix branding, logos, site design and original written content are the property of Reutilix or its licensors and may not be copied or commercially exploited without permission, subject to applicable law.

15. Reporting & Enforcement

To report an inappropriate listing, request, message or user, email hello@reutilix.ca. Reutilix may, at its discretion and where reasonably necessary for safety, legal compliance, fraud prevention, policy enforcement or protection of users or the platform, remove or restrict content, refuse service, and suspend or terminate accounts.

16. Service Availability & Changes

Reutilix may modify, suspend or discontinue features of the Service at any time. Reutilix does not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or continuously available.

17. Third-Party Services

The Service may link to or integrate with third-party websites or services. Reutilix does not control and is not responsible for third-party content, terms or practices.

18. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Service and all content, listings, requests, messages and materials made available through it are provided on an “as-is” and “as-available” basis without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement. Reutilix does not warrant the accuracy, completeness, currency, safety or legality of any user content or transaction.

19. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Reutilix and its affiliates, directors, officers, employees and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, business, data, goodwill or materials, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the Service or any user-to-user transaction, whether based on warranty, contract, tort or any other legal theory, and whether or not Reutilix has been advised of the possibility of such damages. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law, including liability for fraud, gross negligence or wilful misconduct.

20. Indemnification

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Reutilix and its affiliates from and against any third-party claims, damages, liabilities, costs and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or relating to (a) your use of the Service, (b) your content, listings or requests, (c) your transactions with other users, or (d) your violation of these Terms or of any law or third-party right.

21. Disputes Between Users

Buyers and sellers are expected to attempt to resolve transaction disputes directly and in good faith. Reutilix may, at its discretion, assist with platform-related issues but does not act as arbitrator, mediator, escrow agent or guarantor.

22. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta, Canada, and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Subject to applicable law, the courts located in Alberta, Canada will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service.

23. Changes to the Terms

Reutilix may update these Terms from time to time. Updated Terms take effect on the “Last updated” date shown at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. Where legally applicable, electronic acceptance (including by ticking a checkbox during signup) and continued use of the Service constitute your agreement to these Terms.

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Reutilix handles personal information in connection with the Service. It is written with Canadian private-sector privacy principles in mind, including the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and comparable provincial legislation where applicable. This Policy does not constitute a certification of, or guarantee of compliance with, any particular law.

Information We Collect

We collect information that you provide directly, including:

  • Account information such as your name, business name, email address and password.
  • Contact information you choose to share in a listing, request or message.
  • Listings, Material Requests, photos, descriptions and other content you post.
  • Messages and communications sent through the Service.
  • Information you voluntarily provide about a transaction (for example, location for pickup).

We also receive limited technical information automatically when you use the Service, such as basic device and browser information, IP address, and log data required to operate and secure the platform. Cookies or similar technologies may be used to keep you signed in and to remember basic preferences. We do not operate a third-party advertising network on the Service. Any future Featured Company placements would promote active Reutilix Seller Members within their own trade category only, and would not appear on individual listing pages, inside buyer-seller conversations, in Material Request details, or as pop-ups.

How We Use Information

  • To operate, maintain, secure and improve the Service.
  • To authenticate your account and keep it secure.
  • To display your listings and requests to other users.
  • To facilitate communication between buyers and sellers.
  • To prevent fraud, abuse and misuse of the Service.
  • To provide customer support and respond to your inquiries.
  • To comply with legal and regulatory obligations.
  • To send service-related notices (for example, account or transactional messages).

Sharing of Information

Content you post to a listing, Material Request or public profile is visible to other users of the Service. Messages sent through the Service are shared with the recipient(s) of that conversation. We share personal information with service providers who help us operate the Service (such as hosting, database, authentication and email delivery providers), under agreements that require them to protect the information and use it only for our purposes. We may disclose information when required by law, in response to valid legal process, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, safety or property of Reutilix, our users or others. If Reutilix is involved in a corporate transaction such as a merger, acquisition or asset sale, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law.

Reutilix does not sell your personal information for money.

Retention

We retain personal information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to operate the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce agreements. Some information may remain in backups or logs for a limited period before being deleted or anonymized in the ordinary course.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including access controls and encryption in transit for connections to the Service. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password and notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

Analytics

Reutilix uses a first-party analytics system to understand how the Service is used and to improve its performance, marketing effectiveness and marketplace activity. This system records:

  • A random first-party identifier stored in your browser (in localStorage) that is used to produce approximate unique-visitor counts.
  • A random session identifier stored for the duration of your visit (in sessionStorage), so that the pages you view during one visit are grouped together as a single session.
  • Pages viewed on the Service, the time of each page view, the approximate time spent on each page and the total length of the visit.
  • Coarse device type (mobile, tablet or desktop) and browser family, derived from your browser’s user-agent string. Reutilix does not build a device fingerprint.
  • Referrer/source information (for example, whether you arrived from a search engine, a social network or another website).
  • UTM campaign values (source, medium, campaign, content, term and campaign ID) and advertising click identifiers (for example a Facebook or Google click ID) when they are present in the link you followed to reach the Service.
  • If you are signed in, your Reutilix account is associated with the session so that we can distinguish member activity from anonymous visits.

This analytics system is first-party only. Reutilix does not use it for cross-site tracking, does not attempt to identify anonymous visitors, does not collect precise or GPS location, and does not intentionally store your full IP address for this analytics system. The identifiers are used to distinguish visits within Reutilix and are not shared with third parties for advertising. You can reset them at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for Reutilix.

Reutilix uses the resulting analytics data only to understand overall usage of the Service, to measure the effectiveness of marketing efforts, to monitor marketplace activity such as listings and requests, and to improve the Service. Separate technical logs (for example, security and operational logs used by our hosting and database providers) are described elsewhere in this Policy and are handled independently of this analytics system.

Your Choices & Privacy Rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request to access, correct, update or delete personal information we hold about you, or withdraw consent to certain uses. You can update most account information from within the Service. To make a privacy request, email hello@reutilix.ca. We may need to verify your identity before responding.

Children & Minors

The Service is not directed to children. Do not use the Service or provide personal information to us if you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction.

Storage & Cross-Border Processing

Reutilix operates from Alberta, Canada. Personal information may be processed and stored by service providers located in Canada or in other jurisdictions and may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates take effect on the “Last updated” date shown at the top of this page.

Marketplace Role & Transaction Responsibility

Reutilix facilitates connections between users. Transactions are made directly between buyer and seller. Reutilix does not guarantee:

  • Seller or buyer identity beyond any verification actually performed;
  • Ownership of, or authority to sell, any listed material;
  • Accuracy, completeness or currency of any listing or Material Request;
  • Condition, quality, quantity, measurements, grade or authenticity;
  • Fitness for a particular purpose or project;
  • Building-code, engineering, structural, electrical, fire or other regulatory compliance;
  • Safety of any material or activity;
  • That any transaction will be completed.

Users must perform their own due diligence on the other party, the material and the transaction, and should obtain qualified professional advice where appropriate.

Prohibited & Restricted Materials

Users must not list, offer, request or transact anything that is illegal to sell, possess, transfer, transport or purchase, or that violates these Terms. Examples include, without limitation:

  • Stolen property or property the seller does not have the legal right to sell.
  • Counterfeit, mislabelled or misrepresented goods.
  • Recalled products where resale is prohibited or would be unsafe.
  • Hazardous materials whose sale, transfer or transport would violate applicable law or platform rules — including asbestos-containing materials, lead-based paints and other regulated hazardous substances.
  • Explosives, ammunition, illegal weapons or components thereof.
  • Controlled substances.
  • Items that require a licence, permit or certification to sell, possess or use, unless all legal requirements are satisfied and the platform permits the listing.
  • Anything otherwise prohibited by applicable federal, provincial or municipal law.

This list is not exhaustive. Reutilix reserves the right to remove any listing, request or content, and to suspend or terminate any account, that it reasonably believes violates these rules or creates a safety, legal or reputational risk. Reutilix does not provide guidance on how to handle dangerous or regulated materials.

Construction Material Safety

Materials transacted through Reutilix are often surplus, used, reclaimed, ex-stock, opened, previously installed, stored for extended periods, weather-exposed or discontinued. Such materials may not be suitable for every application and may not carry a manufacturer warranty.

Buyers should inspect materials in person before purchase or installation and, where appropriate, consult qualified professionals — including engineers, electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, building officials or manufacturers — before using material for structural, electrical, mechanical, fire-rated, safety-critical or otherwise regulated applications.

Reutilix does not certify structural capacity, engineering suitability, electrical compliance, fire ratings, manufacturer warranties, building-code compliance, or fitness for a particular project.

Payments, Pricing & Taxes

Reutilix is free to buy and free to sell. Approved construction and trade businesses pay no listing fees, subscription fees or transaction commissions, and no payment card is required. Buying, browsing, contacting Sellers and posting Material Requests are free. Reutilix takes no commission or percentage of any material transaction, and does not process transactions, hold funds, provide escrow or guarantee payment between users. Prices, negotiations, payment methods, invoices, receipts and other transaction obligations are the responsibility of buyer and seller.

Reutilix may introduce paid seller plans in the future. Sellers will receive advance notice of any pricing and must actively agree and subscribe before any charge is made. Nothing in these Terms means an existing Seller has agreed to any future paid pricing.

Sellers are responsible for determining, collecting, reporting and remitting any applicable taxes on material sales, including GST/HST, PST and provincial sales taxes. Any future seller fees would be quoted in CAD plus applicable tax.

Reutilix may in the future introduce payment processing, optional promoted placements, or other services. When it does, additional terms and updates to this page will apply to those services.

Pickup, Delivery & Loading

Buyer and seller must agree on pickup or delivery arrangements, including loading and unloading, transportation, timing, cost, required equipment, site access and related safety responsibilities. Reutilix does not currently provide transportation or loading services and is not responsible for those arrangements.

All parties must comply with applicable occupational health and safety, transportation and site-access requirements.

Disputes

Buyers and sellers are expected to attempt to resolve transaction disputes directly and in good faith. Reutilix may, at its discretion, help with communication or platform-related issues but does not automatically act as arbitrator, mediator, escrow agent or guarantor.

Reutilix retains the ability to investigate platform abuse, remove content, restrict or terminate accounts, and cooperate with law-enforcement or other lawful authorities as reasonably necessary.

Account Enforcement

Where reasonably necessary for safety, legal compliance, fraud prevention, enforcement of these Terms or protection of users or the platform, Reutilix may remove listings, restrict content, investigate suspected misuse, and suspend or terminate accounts. Reutilix aims to apply these measures fairly and only when reasonably warranted.
