How this is calculated

Total area = sum of each room's length × width. Area including waste = total × (1 + waste%). If you enter a coverage per box, boxes required = area including waste ÷ coverage per box, rounded up to a whole box.

Frequently asked questions

How much waste should I plan for flooring?

10% is a common default for straight installs. Diagonal layouts, herringbone patterns or rooms with lots of cuts often need 15% or more.

Where do I find the coverage per box?

It's printed on the flooring box, usually in square feet or square metres per carton. Enter that number to get an accurate box count.

Why does the box count round up?

You can't buy a partial box, so the calculator always rounds up to the next whole box to make sure you have enough material.
